Our three-day security driving courses are designed to prepare individuals for a situation in which they are vulnerable and under the threat of a terrorist or organized criminal attack while in transit.
The training emphasizes the proactive approach to protection. Areas that will be covered include Terrorist Operations & Surveillance Detection; consisting of past terrorist/criminal attacks, lessons learned, route analysis and surveillance detection, Security Driver Training; consisting of vehicle dynamics and the importance of understanding “vehicle language”. Realistic exercises such as straight-line emergency (Threshold) braking, braking-in-turns, serpentine, skid pad, swerve-to-avoid, and off-road recoveries are designed to improve the driving abilities of licensed drivers at any skill level.
Vehicle control skills will be applied to technical driving which requires the student to accurately read and negotiate a road way at elevated speeds. It will teach the driver how to use the vehicle as a means of escape or as a weapon for survival. Students will learn the use of emergency backing, “Y” and “J” turns, precision intervention technique (PIT), barricade breaching (RAM), driver down (passenger side driving) and how to recognize an attack.
During the course, students will learn what a car is capable of and most importantly, their own limits. Here at BSR, we always emphasize the importance of being mentally prepared in order to be able to react. We have found that training is more effective when it is presented as realistic situational exercises where the student comes under different types of attacks and is challenged to react.
Personal Protection Training provides a more in-depth individual protective training. Students learn how much protection an average vehicle can or cannot provide from direct fire weapons. Students will learn about improvised explosive devices (IED) and how to search a vehicle in a systematic method.
