“Gun guys are often car guys.” Here at BSR, all of you are very aware of our love for guns and cars. Thanks to G&A writer Eric Poole, we now know why. It’s the love for performance-oriented mechanics.
In a recent Guns & Ammo article Guns and Cars: Les Baer’s Two Passions, Eric Poole takes a walk through the Les Baer Car Collection, a ride in Les Baer’s ruby-red Shelby 1000, and a lesson in gunsmithing with a custom-built GT Monolith Stinger, Les Baer’s newest custom 1911.
Who Is Les Baer, Sr.?
For those of you who don’t know, Les Baer, Sr. is known for building 1911s and drag racing Mustangs. Les started his gunsmithing services from the basement garage of his Allentown PA. home in 1973. Later, when he created Les Baer Custom; along with Chuck and Mark Larsen and Matt Gish, they immediately began turning out legendary guns. Oh, and let us not forget to mention that Les Baer is a racing legend, winning the Pro 5.0 championship in 1997 and 1999 after competing in drag racing and bracket racing for two decades prior.
