“Twenty-one states around the country, from California to Maryland, saw active shooter incidents in the two-year period from 2016 to 2017, ten more than in the previous two-year period, according to a new FBI report.
The report says most of the incidents occurred in places of business, such as a shopping mall, followed by open spaces, such as a park or an outdoor concert venue and school environments.”
It’s a common misconception that you are safer in more open, more populated areas. It’s an unfortunate reality that you really aren’t safe anywhere, especially as active shooter incidents continue to rise. You must always be prepared. You must always expect the unexpected. The more accepting we are of the world around us and the dangers included, the higher our survival rate becomes.
Our Contractor (Civilian) Terrorism Awareness course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to better prepare them for living and working in unpredictable security threat environments overseas. Participants gain the practical skills necessary to recognize, avoid, and respond to potential security threat situations. Participants will demonstrate the practical application of techniques taught in the course and gain experience in personal resilience, risk management, restraint defeat, situational awareness and threat prevention, aspects of personnel recovery, emergency medical care, improvised explosive device (IED) awareness, firearms familiarization, fire as a weapon, react to contact, self-defense for overseas and defensive/counterterrorist driving maneuvers. The final day of the course features reality-based scenarios that enable participants to test their skills retention as well as their abilities to react during crisis situations.
