This course is designed for those individuals who are vulnerable and under the threat of a terrorist or organized criminal attack while in transit. The training emphasizes the proactive approach to protection. Evasive Driving Training is designed to improve the car control skills of licensed drivers at any experience level. The student learns about vehicle dynamics and the importance of understanding “vehicle language”. This is accomplished through realistic exercises such as straight-line emergency (Threshold) braking, braking-in-turns, serpentine, skid pad, swerve-to-avoid, and off-road recoveries. The student will also learn about ocular driving, the use of focusing your eyes on where you want the vehicle to go. Vehicle control skills will be applied to technical driving which requires the student to accurately read and negotiate a road way at elevated speeds. It will teach the driver how to use the vehicle as a means of escape or as a weapon for survival. Students will learn the use of emergency backing, “Y” and “J” turns, precision intervention technique (PIT), barricade breaching (RAM), driver down (passenger side driving) and how to recognize an attack. Students will learn what a car is capable of and most importantly, their own limits. We will emphasize the importance of being mentally prepared in order to be able to react. The training is brought together through realistic situational exercises where the student comes under different types of attacks and is challenged to react.
Course Program:
Day 1:
Advanced Vehicle Control
Students will learn how to understanding the driver/vehicle relationship. The areas that will be emphasized are vehicle language, weight and traction transfer, ocular driving, body position, hand management, straight braking, braking-in-turns, swerving to avoid objects, ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) and off-road recoveries. They will also be taught the difference between over steer and under steer and how they are controlled by skid recovery.
Technical Driving
Students will apply advanced vehicle control skills, vehicle dynamics, weight and traction control as well as dealing with adrenaline and stress management. Positively using “line theory” and ocular driving to accurately read and negotiate a road way at elevated speeds.
Technical “Street Line” Driving
Students will apply advanced vehicle control skills at elevated speeds while adjusting their “line” for opposing traffic.
Technical Driving Practical Exercise
Students must accurately read and negotiate an unfamiliar road way at elevated speeds while adjusting their “line” for opposing traffic.
Car Shoot Demonstration
Students will witness the shooting of a vehicle with some of the world’s most common military munitions. Key compartments will be targeted and penetration issues will be discussed.
Day 2
Backing “Y” & “J” Turns
Students will learn straight line backing while maneuvering around obstacles at high rates of speed in conjunction with conducting “Y” and/or “J” turns.
Driver Down – Passenger Front Seat Driving
Students will learn the skills to acquire, maintain control and escape an attack while operating the vehicle from the passenger seat.
Precision Intervention Technique (PIT)
Students will learn how to protect themselves from being immobilized from an attacker alongside. Students come under attack through actual contact exercises and are challenged to use their vehicle as a weapon to protect themselves.
Barricade Breaching (RAM)
Students will learn ramming through a vehicle that has created a barricade that is blocking your path of travel.
IED (Improvised Explosive Device) Vehicle Search
Students will be familiarized with the different types of explosive devices which may be emplaced on a vehicle. They are shown a technique to thoroughly search a hastily employed explosive device.
Attack Recognition
Students will learn to analyze a possible threat by studying historical case Studies of attacks on individuals and their vehicles and recognizing the attack indicators. Understand the importance of having the mental mindset and the situational awareness in order to make a quick decision and execute an escape maneuver. Students will be placed as individuals in attack scenarios and expected to execute an escape maneuver.
