If you’re unfamiliar with our accident avoidance or defensive driving instructional courses, the purpose of these courses is to go beyond basic driver’s ed. During their time with us, trainees can practice controlling vehicles during a skid using “skid pads,” areas of racetrack that can be wetted for practice.
Parents come to us, reasonably worried that their student drivers are going to hit the road, inexperienced and easily distracted by the radio, their friends and their cellphones. I mean, we were all that age once, right? However, the number of teenagers that are killed on the roads every year remains troubling. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, traffic accidents are the leading cause of death among teenagers.
Our courses give inexperienced drivers valuable skills behind the wheel that will allow them to make a decision based on experience instead of simply guessing what they should do. If they do lose control of a car, they learn that they shouldn’t stop driving. “You can regain control of the vehicle. You stay a driver and don’t become a passenger.”
Plus, skid pads always get students excited. To them, it isn’t all boring life lessons. It’s the thrill of legally pushing their cars in a safe environment with professionals there guiding them.
