Ease of Use
If you own a gun, you need to know how to use a gun, and use it proficiently. Some people who buy guns have bought them “for emergencies” and haven’t even test-fired them. There’s no denying the convenience of air guns — You can shoot them almost anywhere.
It takes time to become proficient in any skill set, and handguns are loud, powerful, heavy, machines that can be very intimidating to a new shooter. With air guns, new shooters can get comfortable shooting a gun in the comfort of their own backyard without having the embarrassing first trip to the range.
And much like other learning techniques, the shooter can get comfortable with shooting basics and slowly graduate to higher powered firearms. The gained muscle memory and accuracy will directly transfer to a handgun when they decide to use one.
A new shooter will be more comfortable shooting an airgun because they don’t have the noise or recoil that a standard handgun produces. This allows the shooter to become familiar with the function and feel of a gun without having to overcome the same noise and violent recoil.
Not only are handguns expensive, but range fees, ammunition, and targets can get expensive when you’re traveling to a practice range to train. Air gun training is less expensive because you can train in your backyard, basement, or any other area for that matter. Additionally, you won’t have to be as worried about putting the training wear-and-tear on your firearm. With the savings on ammunition around 20 to 1, it just makes sense to shoot airguns for practice and training.
Being an average shooter is not good enough when you’re defending yourself or your family. You need that edge. Air gun training is an excellent way to ramp up a novice shooter on safe gun handling skills. Just think how easy it will be to practice holster drills from concealed carry.
There are multiple air guns that can replicate the recoil on a cartridge-firing firearm. When looking for an air gun that can do this, try purchasing those with blowback action and/or matching capacity magazines. The more similar the air gun is to firing an actual firearm, the more you will increase your skills. Airsoft is reinventing itself with new airsoft guns that offer realism and the ability to take the abuse training can dole out.
